When it comes to celebrity magazines, you had better be sure that you are picking the right ones. There are many different magazines that you can choose from, and you will find that the longer you read celebrity magazines, the more apt you are going to be have your favorites when it comes to these magazines and to be able to have magazines that you feel are very important to you when it comes to celebrity news. There are several magazines that you can choose from, and there are several that you should read for in depth coverage of your favorite celebrities and what they are currently up to.

People Magazine

People Magazine has a circulation of 3.75 million and it was named “Magazine of the Year” by Advertising Age in October 2005. This award was for excellence in editorial, circulation and advertising. People offers many celebrity articles, however, they began as a personal interest magazine, and still publish many features on personal interest topics. Along with the stories about celebrities and other things, you will find many different stories about regular people and people who have made the news for many different reasons. People Magazine usually does in depth coverage of personal interest stories and big news stories, and has several famous features. For instance, they do a column each year that talks about who they feel are the sexiest people of that previous year.

Us Weekly

US Weekly is a magazine that is affiliated with People Magazine. US Weekly offers breaking news and information on top celebrity stories and styles. The main focus of the magazine is on celebrities while People centers on personal interest topics. US Weekly has an exclusive deal with MTV’s “The Hills” and has special issues all year long. Some of the topics of these special issues are best bodies and best makeovers. Publisher Jann Wenner insists that US Weekly is “nice to celebrities” and not as gossipy as its competitors.

Star Magazine

Founded in 1974, Star Magazine is mostly tabloid derived, including sections titled “Worst of the Week” which details the worst fashion mistakes of the week and “Knife styles of the Rich and Famous” which cover plastic surgery operations that celebrities have done. Overall, Star Magazine focuses on the latest celebrity news, gossip, photos and exclusives. Star has a “Beauty Club” which gives makeup tips and promotes certain beauty products, and also has weekly quizzes and games.

Ok! Magazine

Ok! Magazine is one of the top magazines when it comes to celebrity gossip. OK! Magazine focuses on exclusive celebrity news, hot photos and videos and fashion trends. OK! Magazine is published in the United States but also circulated in Europe, where it was founded. It is a weekly publication, which helps to retain readers while entertaining them as well. OK! is best known for its top coverage of celebrity weddings and also for exclusive interviews and personal revelations of the hottest celebrities in the entertainment industry. The magazine focuses on positive developments in celebrity’s lives.

Entertainment Weekly

Entertainment Weekly is not tabloid driven like many of its competitors. EW is fashioned toward a more general audience, particularly young people and women. Unlike many of its competitors, Entertainment Weekly focuses on breaking entertainment news about celebrities, TV shows, movies, music and books. EW also contains celebrity interviews, movie and DVD reviews including top selling book, music and DVD titles.

No matter which of the news magazines you are reading on a daily basis, you should be sure to know that each of these magazines provides a slightly different take on the entertainment world. There are many talented actors and musicians who do not receive any mention in these publications. Besides the titles listed above, there are more in-depth and specialized magazines to choose from. Also, although many of these magazines look similar, it is important to remember that some magazines which revolve around celebrity news are more trustworthy than others.

The magazines that are in the top five celebrity magazines all have very wide and extensive histories. They are magazines that pride themselves on providing the readers with as much news a possible when it comes to the various types of gossip that they are interested in. Most of the time, these news magazines provide information on celebrities, wealthy individuals and other people that have, for one reason or another, made it their goal to be in the news and in the public eye. This means, however, that there is a lot of competition amongst the magazines to sell the most copies. Therefore, when you are reading most of the celebrity magazines, you should take things with a grain of salt and make sure that the information you have been given actually checks out in the real world.

We dote on celebrities because they are larger than life, more famous, more charismatic, and richer than us. It seems like our celebrity obsessed society cannot get enough of the daily lives of such star celebrities. Newspapers boost their sales by splashing these celebrities across their front pages, many magazines feature celebrities within them.

- How did celebrities become such an important force in our culture?

- Have we always been so awestruck by the lifestyles of the rich and the famous?

- Does something larger than life always catch our attention?

- Is there a common theme throughout history?

Perhaps we can find some of the answers by looking at celebrity in history. First let us remind ourselves of the importance of being awestruck. An old tale of a mouse who boasts of her huge litter of babies to a lioness illustrates the point of why we find celebrities fascinating. The mouse asks the Lioness proudly “how many young have you the great cat given birth to? The Lioness replied “One, but he is a lion,”

The First Celebrities in History.

The first celebrities of the ancient world were almighty powerful Gods of the Greek and Roman pantheons. Citizens of these civilizations believed the Gods had a direct influence on their lives and it was, hence, important to know all about the Gods’ own lives. As people in the ancient world spread information about the Gods, myths were created. Such myths involved the Gods in ancient celebrity scandals that excited and teased the common people. We have all heard of how the ancient Greeks believed the Gods were angered during some unexplainable event like a volcano erupting or an earthquake.

Besides the ancient Gods monarchs and political leaders were also celebrities of the time, however their fame could not possibly compete with that of the Gods. They could not move the earth or cause the heavens to open. Thus the ancient Gods had exposure everywhere. There were statues and temples named after them, sacrifices and holidays in their honor. In other words the ancient Gods had lots of exposure.

The Celebrity Sportsmen of the Olympics.

Another group of celebrities that had great exposure to the public were, in fact, winners in the ancient Olympic Games. These athletes were widely talked about, and were given the equivalent of modern day red-carpet treatment. After a victory at the Olympics a winning athlete on returning to his city, part of the city wall was demolished so they did not have to use the gates like “ordinary mortals”. These athletes also won the right to lifelong free meals, the equivalent of the vast sums of money that modern celebrities earn nowadays.

The Celebrity Gladiators.

Ancient celebrities were known to the masses because they had their faces plastered all over the place, on sculptures and pictures. Julius Caesar also realized this and was the first Roman to appear on a coin in his own lifetime, he became instantly recognizable and more powerful at the same time. Another group of people who were recognized were the Roman Gladiators, whose bloodthirsty contests drew thousands of spectators to the gladiatorial battles. News of their battles spread by word of mouth, and little boys idolized them, often asking for fighting lesson at gladiator schools. Many women were also known to have illicit affairs with the muscle-bound fearless fighters.

Celebrities in The Middle Ages.

When we think of the middle ages most people think of brave warriors and heroic knights in shining Armor, killing dragons and rescuing damsels in distress. While this is the image that many of us think of when we talk about knights in shining Armor the reality was a little different.

Thousands of years ago, one of the best ways to gain fame was through the fortune of birth. The first step to become famous was to become a squire. Such squires were only drawn from the families of the nobility, they might be sons of knights or lords or even princes. Once a squire became a knight he was an instant celebrity. He would be given a coat of arms which he could pass on down through the generations.

Knights also became famous in their treatment of women. In medieval Europe the idea was born that men should treat women not as a possession but as a person to be admired. This idea led to the fashion that knights should do heroic deeds just to win a smile from a lady. The knights and squires were taught to worship beautiful women and do brave things in her name. A very public display of their bravery was seen at medieval tournaments.

Medieval tournaments were originally a form of military training, but soon became popular public displays for brave knights to win favor of a special lady, often a countess or even a princess. Jousting was the main form of competition and many a knight could show off in front of the large crowds at these public events. Celebrity status was thus guaranteed, for the winner of these popular competitions. These competitions were a way for Knights to win fame and fortune. Not only did they become popular with the masses, but the winners often took the losers horse and Armor and even the lady who might be an heiress to some vast fortune. Over time a different kind of event became popular. The play.

Rise of the Arts and William Shakespeare.

William Shakespeare began his career as an actor with a London theatrical company–perhaps in 1589–for he was already an actor and playwright of some note in 1592. Plays were a popular form of entertainment for all layers of society in Shakespeare’s time. This may explain why Hamlet feels compelled to instruct the traveling Players on the fine points of acting, urging them not “to split the ears of the groundlings,” nor “speak no more than is set down for them.”

William Shakespeare’s plays were popular because the stories are timeless and beautifully written. Shakespeare’s plays are timeless in the lessons that are learned from them. Think about what is learn from “Macbeth”

1. Meddling in dark magic is dangerous.

2. Absolute power corrupts.

3. Loyalty is a good thing…being so power-hungry that you’re willing to kill is a bad thing.

4. “To thine own self be true.” Don’t let yourself be influenced by other people – don’t let their name-calling push you into doing things you’re not comfortable with (Lady Macbeth and how she taunted her husband).

Shakespeare became a celebrity in his own time because he wrote plays about universal themes that are true for all humanity, regardless of time period, gender, race, religion, or continent. We have all experienced, love, hate, forgiveness and revenge. We are all interested in the paranormal, salvation, ambition, success and juicy gossip–why else would movies, sitcoms, reality TV and soap operas be such a huge entertainment value?

These are all great reason why Shakespearean plays like Macbeth endured, they certainly have stories with staying power. Shakespeare was also good with his representations of imagery, alliteration, irony, analogy, soliloquy, monologue, aside, figurative language like metaphors, extended metaphors, similes, personification, symbolism. But it was the plays that made him a celebrity in his own time, not his writings. For the plays were attended by the vast populace and news of what they saw spread by word of mouth, and with the stories, Shakespeare’s name and fame was spread too.

Celebrities in Print.

While the celebrities of the ancient world were able to achieve moderate and sometimes lasting fame, mass celebrity as we now know today would not begin until the invention of the printing and publishing industry in the late eighteenth century. With the rise of printing a need to learn to read was recognized. There was a huge increase in the literacy rates of common people, allowing printed celebrity news to reach a mass audience for the first time. Suddenly, the lives of authors, political figures, war heroes, and other celebrities could now be read by people all around the world. Print gave average people the chance to become intimately knowledgeable about the celebrities they most admired. Charles Dickens first started serializing his books in newspapers as short stories. The resulting media attention helped him become more widely read celebrity of his time.

Celebrities in the 20th Century.

From the print media came the visual media of film and radio. In first part of the 1900s, movie stars began to be the true A-list celebrities. The bright lights and warm sun of Hollywood became a perfect setting for the city of the stars. As radio began to make its way into the average home in the 1920s and 1930s, celebrities became more interesting to regular people. Professional athletes also began to take on star status, as their games and exploits could be also be broadcast live over the air for an entirely new audience. In the 1950s television only further promoted the premier celebrity that film stars, professional athletes, and television actors of today shared. Not to miss out, political and religious figures sought to take advantage of the new medium. Such celebrities would still become famous but their fame was dwarfed in comparison to the new Hollywood Celebrities of the 20th Century.

Technology and the modern Celebrity.

In the twenty-first century, the rise of the Internet has only continued to nurture a culture

That is obsessed with celebrities. It is now possible to know intimate details about a famous person’s life by simply entering a few keywords into an Internet search engine. In the late 1960s, Andy Warhol, an artist, filmmaker, and diarist fascinated by Hollywood culture, claimed: “In the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.” That is now a fact with emerging reality television shows. These shows have made it possible for average people with little talent to enjoy their 15 minutes of fame on the television reality shows.

Where we are and how we got here.

One common theme throughout celebrity history is that all the big celebrities were marked out to be famous because they were part of a larger than life event. In Ancient times the event was the Olympics that made winning athletes famous celebrities. The Romans gave us the Gladiators who fought to the death in front of a bloodthirsty audience, another large event. In the middle ages it was the Knights who again in front of large audiences won at Tournaments and became famous traveling warriors, again a large audience event. In William Shakespeare’s time the event was live theater where audiences could vicariously watch struggles of fictional but believable characters. Before we knew it newspapers, radio, cinema, television and the Internet brought these live larger than life events into our own living rooms. Whether we are watching a live football match, or listening to a live concert on the radio. One thing is for sure while there are audiences out there, thirsty for live larger than life events, then there will be celebrities out there that seek to entertain them.

By Dave Mcevoy

Celebrity skin may seem unattainable, but it is a possibility for many skin types. Following a strategic skin care maintenance and management program is just one way to achieve celebrity skin and learn about the best skin care program for long-term skin health. Healthy skin is a part of a healthy lifestyle, and is a part of looking younger, longer. Celebrities take regular care of their skin through a variety of techniques. These include ongoing facials, massages, skin care regimes, and a healthy diet. Exercise can also play a role in stellar skin year round, as it improves circulation and helps remove toxins from the body in a natural way.

Regular skin care that is integrated into a daily habit will create long-term results. Still, there are many intensive treatments and options available to enhance the skin’s appearance and achieve dramatic results. These include anti-aging procedures, scientific treatments for specific skin conditions, or even holistic and natural therapies to improve skin definition.

Celebrity Skin Care Regimes

Healthy skin regimes start with a daily routine that cleans, moisturizes, and nourishes skin on a regular basis. This will include a process of:

•	Cleansing

•	Buffing

•	Toning

•	Moisturizing

•	Sunscreen application

•	Corrective serums

•	Quality makeup application

•	Facials or masques for exfoliation

A healthy skin care regime takes time to develop and integrate into a lifestyle, but once it becomes a natural habit, it can provide consistent results. Celebrities have a variety of resources and products available to help them look and feel their best. This ranges from intensive treatments, high-quality products, natural or holistic remedies for problem skin, and pursuing a healthy and balanced lifestyle with diet and exercise.

Common Celebrity Skincare Treatments

Skincare treatments that offer intensive, deep treatments on a regular basis can encourage detoxification and vitamin infusions. These can enrich the skin’s top layer, leaving it rejuvenated and refreshed. Common skincare treatments include:

•	Microdermabrasion

•	Mud masques

•	Skin resurfacing procedures

•	Botox injections to remove fine lines and wrinkles

•	Facial lifts and injections

•	Organic and herbal serums and treatments

•	Natural cosmetic applications

•	Vitamin-rich body and skin treatments, including body wraps, moisturizer applications, and intensive moisture therapy

•	Photo pigmentation to remove spots and blemishes

•	Glycolic peels

•	Lip treatments and enhancers

•	Skin buffing and hair removal

•	Acid and collagen fillers

Both dermatologists and plastic surgeons can help with any of these treatments, and although some intensive treatments will have side effects, these usually subside in a few days or weeks. Maintaining skin with natural products and treatments will help in the long-term, so a balance is often necessary.

Celebrity Skincare Products

Wearing natural cosmetics and using high-quality skincare products are often a part of the celebrity skin care regime. Top skincare brands will offer nutrient-rich products that may include:

•	Hydrating toners

•	Vitamin-rich moisturizers

•	Herbal infusions and serums

•	Penetrating pore cleaners

•	Anti-wrinkle creams and serums

•	Eye treatments such as gels, serums, and light moisturizers

•	Overnight creams that tighten and firm the skin

•	Facials that cleanse, remove dirt from clogged pores, and stimulate the skin’s top layer

Celebrity Lifestyles that Encourage Healthy Skin

A regular exercise and fitness program, along with a steady diet of natural foods, are essential components of healthy skin. Celebrities and stars often have personal trainers and fitness experts readily available to guide them through their fitness regime, and may even have personal chefs to provide highly nutritious foods and meals. However, some key elements of both of these lifestyles can greatly enhance anyone’s skin and appearance.

Healthy dieting and eating habits include integration of food with a high level of antioxidants, natural foods, plenty of fruits, and a variety of vegetables. Foods that are high in antioxidants and that may have a direct impact on skin include:

•	Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables

•	Leafy green vegetables

•	Whole grains

•	Nuts, seeds, and natural fruits

•	Healthy fats from fatty fish, Omega 3 supplements, and flax seed

•	Plenty of fresh, spring water

Regular exercise can boost circulation and increase the body’s ability to eliminate toxins. This is very important to refresh and remove dead skin cells, as well as any toxic material in the body that may be causing skin disorders or imbalances. Regular exercise can increase the chances of healthy skin production, resulting in a glowing appearance. This healthy glow from within is common among celebrity skin, and is fairly easy to maintain.

Avoiding excessive sun exposure is important to maintain skin’s natural elasticity and prevent premature aging. This is why regular sunscreen application is essential for long-term skin care, and is often a part of a daily regime. Skin can deteriorate and mature at an accelerated pace when it is exposed to excessive UV-rays. Tanning booths, too much time outdoors, and inadequate skin care will result in fine lines and wrinkles developing, as well as increasing the risk of skin cancer.

If you flip through a magazine, go to the movies or watch television, you have probably seen some celebrity hairstyles that are stunning (and maybe some that are not). Most people have celebrity hairstyles that they would like to imitate, but assume that copying celebrity hairstyles requires perfect locks or spending a fortune at a hair salon.

Although there is nothing quite like a professionally set hairstyle, it is possible to imitate many of the looks you see on the runway and in the media. All that is required is patience, persistence, a good eye and the right equipment and techniques.

Almost all starlets have their own version of the sedu, one of the most popular celebrity hairstyles. The sedu is a straight look, and many of these straight hair dos are “messy” and have a “blown” look to them, although some are sleek. Jennifer Anniston is the actress who made the sedu look famous, and she has an advantage with her naturally ruler-straight locks.

However, you can have naturally curly and wavy hair and still achieve sedu-perfect straightness with a flat iron. To have a look like Jennifer Anniston’s, apply the following techniques:

• Shampoo and condition hair (conditioner is especially important, since it tames curls and waves)

• Brush your hair flat and apply gel

• Blow dry your hair with a round brush. Point the barrel of the dryer downard to avoid frizzing and waving

• Take one inch wide sections of your hair and press it flat with a sedu iron. If you want a perfectly straight “do” do not flip at the ends, or you can flip the hair or out by twisting the ends around the flat iron.

Reese Witherspoon sported one of the most memorable celebrity hairstyles at the academy awards. Her elegant chignon elicited as much comment as her spectacular performance. A chignon is not difficult to shape, and is formed by a ponytail that is perched just a few inches off the neck.

The chignon is good for long to medium length hair, since the “pony” requires enough hair to be formed into a roll.

•Shampoo and condition hair (you might want to do this the day before the big occasion, since freshly washed pony’s are more difficult to style)

•Rinse out the conditioner and follow with a cool rinse for shine

•Towel dry and apply a leave-in conditioner

•Dry with a blowdryer and a paddle brush

•Form a ponytail at the nape of the neck and divide the pony into three sections

•Curl the pony sections with a curling iron and pin the curls until they are cool

•Brush the pony gently and wrap it around the elastic band, arranging it to the right size and shape.

Keira Knightley’s new super-short “pixie do” became an overnight sensational celebrity hairstyle, although some felt it was a bit drastic. Still, she has the eyes and the perfect face for a pixie do.

You don’t have to be a Keira look-a-like to look good in a pixie; if your face is somewhat oval, it is a good style.

•The stylist should form the back into a “wedge shape”

•Leave generous bangs in front for a feminine look, and to emphasize the eyes

•Adjust the bangs according to your mood. You might want to curl them or to straighten them with a sedu iron.

The Pixie style is a sassy look which is quite attractive, and is a good style for summer.

Paris Hilton sported some elegant sedu bobs until she sheared most of her locks. What she will do with her super-short hair now, remains to be seen, but you can re-create her signature bobs with a sedu iron, gently flipping the ends inward or outward according to your mood. Paris also wore her hair sometimes in a half-up, half-down, asymmetrical style. Experiment with pulling parts of your hair up and leaving them down according to your mood.

By Bronwen Roberts

Celebrity Spotting in Britain has become a national pastime. Each year thousands of visitors gather on the streets of London, clutching Timeout magazines; hoping to make some sense from the many pages of where to go and what to do in the City.

Say, you’re a celeb spotter! You’ve come to London for some serious celebrity action. Where would you go to spot the Stars?

Here are some Celebrity Hotspots: some are relatively easy to get in to; but you need to book at least 6 months in advance. Others are membership only, so to land a seat at the bar will require some serious networking on your part.

Celebrity Hotspots

Most people go to The Ivy for the name and the status. You will spend more than the food is worth, but that is to be expected! You’re not there for the sumptuous fare, but for the celebrity action…hopefully! Oak panels, soft lighting, and 1920s stained glass windows enhance the idea that it’s all terribly snobby. The service and attention to detail are exemplary, the menu is eclectic, mainly British/European with a few far-flung influences. But it caters mainly for people who know what they want. Simple ingredients prepared to perfection have earned The Ivy its coveted reputation of serving delightful ‘comfort food’. The cosy dining area almost certainly means if a celebrity is at the next table, you’ll be sitting a stones throw away from them.

Celebrities often seen enjoying the famously diverse menu at The Ivy are David Bowie & Iman, Tom Cruize, Elton John and George Michael

San Lorenzo in Knightsbridge is probably the most infamous restaurant in London, because it was one of Princess Diana’s favourite haunts. The place is still very popular with celebrities and is famous for dishes such as “bagna cauda”, risotto with cheese and asparagus and polenta with blue cheese.

A Knightsbridge institution for the rich and famous, San Lorenzo is notorious for its glamorous clientele, rather than for the quality of its food and service. Its tinted windows protect the privacy of its well-to-do diners. The Italian food is pretty ordinary but the place is always packed, so it’s essential to book.

Stars you could bump into if you decide to visit San Lorenzo are Naomi Campbell, Madonna, Guy Ritchie & Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Groucho Club was established in 1985 and the name was inspired by one of Groucho Marx’s quips; he once remarked that “I don’t want to join a club that will accept me as a member.”

The original membership was drawn from the publishing world but over the years has expanded to include all creative fields of the media and arts. Soho with its bohemian history and working and living population of writers, artists and filmmakers was the natural location. The Groucho is the original modern members club. The infamous membership Committee has long been the fearless arbiters of who is considered a suitable Groucho Club person. Concerts, exhibitions and parties are hosted here and the 19 bedrooms are open to members and their guests. You’ll have to make friends with a member just to get into the Bar area.

They say membership to the Groucho Club is more exclusive than the SAS and nearly as tough to get in; more mysterious than the Mason’s, with an initiation ceremony that would make a Ninja faint.

Celebrities whom you might see at The Groucho include, Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Kate Moss & Robert Downey Jr.

About the Author: The Draycott Hotel http://www.draycotthotel.com in Cadogan Gardens is both exclusive and secluded; attributes that are high on any celebrities list. Ali the Head Concierge has become a famous figure in his own right. He has taken care of people like, Michelle Pfeiffer, Pierce Brosnan and John Malkovich.

By Thomas K

The availability of free music production software has impacted music production both positively and negatively. It has impacted positively on the side of the artists and more negatively on the professional music producers. It has also affected the designers of the software both negatively and positively.

There are many modern music production software versions that can be downloaded for free online. Not all are effective in music production, while some free software produce very high quality output which is better than those produced using purchased software.

Most of the free software have numerous virtual instruments, many unbeatable tools and mostly have a flexible arrangements and perfect sound design. The wide range of the production software availed online enables one to have a wide range of options to choose from. One can even choose to try producing the music using different versions and only choose the one which produces quality music.

Most of the free programs are easy to use, especially for beginners. They provide audio lessons and are mostly updated with the latest beats and other modern features. This makes one to be able to produce music with modern beats even without prior knowledge. It also enables beginners to start their career at a high note hence in the long run making them be able to compete well with those already established it the career. Most beginners have limited budgets and would opt for cheaper poor quality production software if the free production software were not available. Hence, availing the software for free has helped many artists be able to work on their dream and make it come true.

Free music production software cuts down production costs, since one does not incur any expenses in obtaining the software. This has a positive effect on the music production since it enables one to produce the music and sell at a affair price. It also cuts the expenses one would have incurred to be instructed on how to produce music. The availability of audio lessons has enabled many people learn more on music production.

However, availing the software for free has had many setbacks to software designers. Most music producers are opting for the free production software so as to cut down production costs the burden of which can cripple many an artist’s dream. This has reduced the market for the software to most designers. Most designers have opted to avail some of their software for free so as to market the rest. It has also created an avenue for stiff competition among the designers.

It has also affected persons who had taken music production as their profession. Most artists used to hire music producers who already had their own production software. This was not a cheap affair to engage in. However, with the availability of free music production software online, most artists are considering downloading it and using the audio lessons to learn how to run the software.

Hence, free music production software has impacted the music production industry both positively and negatively.

Modern sheet music notation (also known as ‘Printed Music’) now comes in many different formats including the recent invention of digital sheet music (available free to download illegally as well as legally for a fee), often downloadable and printable in the .PDF Portable Digital Format. It can be argued that at least in the Western world there is the beginnings of a move away from the paper book format. Sheet music is different to Tablature (a.k.a Tab or Tabulature) which is another form of musical notation, which tells players where to place their fingers on a particular instrument rather than which pitches to play. This is a popular form of sheet music for beginners learning to play guitar.

If a piece of instrumental music is intended to be performed by more than one musician, each performer will play from a separate piece of sheet music, called a part.

Sheet music is issued as individual pieces or works (e.g. a pop song or a Mozart symphony) or in collections (e.g. works by one or several artists)

When the separate instrumental and sung parts of a musical work are printed together, the resulting sheet music is called a score. A score usually consists of musical notation with each instrumental or vocal part in alignment vertically (meaning that concurrent events in the notation for each part are arranged orthographically). The term score is also used to refer to sheet music written for only one performer.

Sheet music comes in a variety of formats:

• A full score contains the music of all instruments and voices in a musical composition lined up in a fixed order.

• A miniature score is like a full score but smaller in size.

• A study score is often the same size as (and often indistinguishable from) a miniature score, except in name. Some study scores are octavo size and are somewhere between the size of full and miniature scores. Study scores can include extra information about the music and markings for educational purposes.

• A piano score (a.k.a. piano reduction) is a transcription for piano of a piece intended for many performing parts, e.g. orchestral works; this can include purely instrumental sections within large vocal works (see vocal score below).

• A vocal score (a.k.a. a piano-vocal score) is a reduction of the full score of a vocal work (e.g. opera, musical, oratorio, cantata etc.) to show the vocal parts (solo and choral) on their staves and the orchestral parts in a piano reduction (usually for two hands) underneath the vocal parts; the purely orchestral sections of the score are also reduced for piano (without the spoken dialogue). If a portion of the work is a cappella, a piano reduction of the vocal parts is often added to aid rehearsal (this often is the case with religious music).

. A choral score contains the sung parts without accompaniment.

. An organ score contains staves for the sung parts and reduces the orchestral parts to be performed by one person.

. A ‘vocal selection’ is a collection of songs from a given musical.

• A short score consists of a edited version of a work for multiple instruments to just a few staves.

• A lead sheet contains only the melody, lyrics and harmony, using one staff with chord symbols placed above and lyrics below. It is commonly used in pop music to capture the essential elements of song without specifying how the song’s arrangement or performance.

• A chord chart or “chart” contains next to no melodic information but provides detailed information on harmony and rhythm. This is the most common kind of printed music notation used by professional musicians.

Not so very long ago most of us who are old enough to remember probably had a collection of vinyl albums that reflected our wide taste in music. Such technology was all we knew and, with the help of a record player, we could enjoy our songs without having to wait for them to come on the radio. Today, technology is so different that it barely resembles its former self. Music lovers of today carry around portable devices that store all of their favorite songs in a piece of equipment that is barely larger than our thumbs. The MP3 music player technology initially appeared in the mid-1980s but we would not see the player in its present state until the late 1990s – 1999 to be exact. But when it made its appearance it would change the world of music forever.

The MP3 music player utilizes media formatting technology to convert existing audio files to the MP3 format. The MP3 format consists of compressed audio files; audio that has been compressed into very small files that can fit into the MP3 music player. And it achieves this compression without sacrificing the audio’s sound quality. In some instances, depending on capacity of the particular MP3 music player, users can fit thousands of songs within its confines. Better still, because of its size the MP3 music player is a portable unit that can fit in handbags and coat pockets. Users have access to their favorite songs no matter where they are and what they are doing. And as their taste in music changes or expands they simply add additional songs to their MP3 music player collection.

The MP3 music player is able to capture audio files through the use of the computer. The most popular variation of the MP3 music player – the iPod – made linking to the computer simple and convenient for users. So much so that most MP3 music players that are sold today are done so because of their compatibility to Apple software – the company that manufacturers iPod.

On the computer, users can either upload their favorite CDs that can then be downloaded onto the MP3 music player; or they can purchase songs online and then download them to the unit. Apple’s iTunes is the most commonly used musical resource for purchasing and downloading songs.

But aside from the convenience in downloading, the MP3 music player is universally revered for its portability. It can be plugged into your vehicle and played through your car’s audio system, plugged into headphones and played while you exercise, or plugged into portable speakers and played throughout your home. In any case, the MP3 music player is the most comprehensive piece of equipment available on the market today to play music.

By Dave Weston

The Music Industry is not only limited to 25 music careers and – is not just for singers, rappers, musicians, dancers, song writers, producers, etc. that are super talented. (and some not so talented) It’s also for those that love a behind the desk job, or hands on work or technical electronics or the office executive and so on and so on.

Many pass over the thought of themselves actually working in the industry due to the common mindset… “if one has talent they have a chance in music.” If one wants weekly (or bi-weekly) pay with benefits one seeks a normal job in the 9-5 workforce. This is simply false. Most people love music to some extent. Those that are paying attention to their future and careers know or at least wish they can be involved with something they love.

Many will admit they believe they don’t have what it takes to make it in the music industry and some will admit they don’t have a desire to be a musical artist. But many will also admit they need a job, and for longevity’s sake will admit they need a career they love. They love music and need career involvement in something they love.

Well… it just so happens that the music industry employs millions all around the world in positions that are not directly artist related or even behind the scenes artist related. The fact is there are over 120 different careers with lucrative futures in the music industry. Now multiply that by the thousands of record labels, advertising agencies, law firms, and so on all over the globe. These careers range from secretaries all the way up to C.E.O.’s of major music corporations. Do you like manual labor, advertising, practicing law, or preparing clothes? If so the music industry has something for you and so much more!

The music industry has involvement in almost every facet of our everyday lives. The music industry alone is responsible for offering some of the most exciting careers known to mankind. These careers are no harder to find than any other types of job as long as you’re willing to look. Yes, of course some jobs require training and hard work and some don’t. But that’s nothing someone seeking a career wouldn’t find even if they were applying for a job at the local telephone company or the like. But! How many people really LOVE their jobs at the telephone company? Or rather how many people love their telephone company job when they can be doing the same thing in the music industry while waving to one of their favorite music artists as they walk down the record label’s hallway for a 2:00 pm appointment with the record executives?

You don’t have to settle anymore with the thought of just getting by in your 9-5 job that you either don’t think much about or that you even hate. You should be searching and conquering a job/career in an arena you can identify with. It doesn’t have to be in music but it should be in you! If you do identify with the music industry, remember there aren’t only 25 music careers. There are as many as you need to be happy.

Do you like camping and do you like live music? If you answered yes to both questions then a visit to the Suwannee Music Park and campground in North Florida will positively delight you.

The park located north of Live Oak, Florida. The camp ground is located on the banks of the Suwannee River and it is home to a variety of musical events throughout the year. You can watch musical performances throughout the week at the park’s music hall and during the festivals you can enjoy the outdoor natural amphitheater.

Live music is just part of the attraction of this park. The camp covers 800 acres which provides ample space for camping, hiking, canoeing, bird watching, jogging, putt putt golf and lots more recreational activities.

The scenery here is beautiful. There is a Spanish moss-draped forest, a cypress tree lined, spring-fed lake, and a wonderful wildlife habitat that is perfect for bird watching. The recreational facilities are well developed and varied.

One unusual attraction is the Bat House. This is the largest known bat house in the United States. Bats enter the house from underneath through three-quarter inch openings. The Bat House is able to hold half a million bats since bats only use one-fourth of an inch of space.

Well if bats are not your thing then you can keep yourself blissfully occupied with swimming, hiking, fishing or canoeing. You can come as a day visitor or spend some time camping.

If you are camping you have several possibilities. The park has 600 improved campsites and 800 acres of primitive camping. There are beautiful cabins available for rent and there is RV parking with full hookups, and there are shower and bath houses as well. There are tent and camping areas and also areas for horse camping. With tent camping you can get water and electric facilities or you can spend less and opt for primitive camping.

If you are planning to do horse camping you will have to bring your own horse (no stallions) and be able to enjoy 20 miles of in-park trails and have access to 50 miles of other trails as well.

Other services at the park include a full service restaurant, a country store and an arts and crafts village.

In case you are wondering about the music experience here, the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park was named “the Best Live Music Venue” in Florida in 2009 by Florida Monthly Magazine. There are numerous concerts and festivals throughout the year and there is live entertainment four nights a week during the year.

But this not only a place to watch music, it is a place to play your own music. There are many covered pavilions and gathering places where campers can gather together for a time of fun, fellowship, and of course, pickin’ and grinnin’. The Suwannee River Bluegrass Association invites you to join them every Saturday night in the Pickin’ Shed at 6 pm.

So pack up your instruments and your camping gear and consider stopping in the Swannee Park the next time you are in Northern Florida. They are located: Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, 3076 95th Drive, Live Oak, Florida 32060, Telephone: 386-364-1683.
