Modern sheet music notation (also known as ‘Printed Music’) now comes in many different formats including the recent invention of digital sheet music (available free to download illegally as well as legally for a fee), often downloadable and printable in the .PDF Portable Digital Format. It can be argued that at least in the Western world there is the beginnings of a move away from the paper book format. Sheet music is different to Tablature (a.k.a Tab or Tabulature) which is another form of musical notation, which tells players where to place their fingers on a particular instrument rather than which pitches to play. This is a popular form of sheet music for beginners learning to play guitar.

If a piece of instrumental music is intended to be performed by more than one musician, each performer will play from a separate piece of sheet music, called a part.

Sheet music is issued as individual pieces or works (e.g. a pop song or a Mozart symphony) or in collections (e.g. works by one or several artists)

When the separate instrumental and sung parts of a musical work are printed together, the resulting sheet music is called a score. A score usually consists of musical notation with each instrumental or vocal part in alignment vertically (meaning that concurrent events in the notation for each part are arranged orthographically). The term score is also used to refer to sheet music written for only one performer.

Sheet music comes in a variety of formats:

• A full score contains the music of all instruments and voices in a musical composition lined up in a fixed order.

• A miniature score is like a full score but smaller in size.

• A study score is often the same size as (and often indistinguishable from) a miniature score, except in name. Some study scores are octavo size and are somewhere between the size of full and miniature scores. Study scores can include extra information about the music and markings for educational purposes.

• A piano score (a.k.a. piano reduction) is a transcription for piano of a piece intended for many performing parts, e.g. orchestral works; this can include purely instrumental sections within large vocal works (see vocal score below).

• A vocal score (a.k.a. a piano-vocal score) is a reduction of the full score of a vocal work (e.g. opera, musical, oratorio, cantata etc.) to show the vocal parts (solo and choral) on their staves and the orchestral parts in a piano reduction (usually for two hands) underneath the vocal parts; the purely orchestral sections of the score are also reduced for piano (without the spoken dialogue). If a portion of the work is a cappella, a piano reduction of the vocal parts is often added to aid rehearsal (this often is the case with religious music).

. A choral score contains the sung parts without accompaniment.

. An organ score contains staves for the sung parts and reduces the orchestral parts to be performed by one person.

. A ‘vocal selection’ is a collection of songs from a given musical.

• A short score consists of a edited version of a work for multiple instruments to just a few staves.

• A lead sheet contains only the melody, lyrics and harmony, using one staff with chord symbols placed above and lyrics below. It is commonly used in pop music to capture the essential elements of song without specifying how the song’s arrangement or performance.

• A chord chart or “chart” contains next to no melodic information but provides detailed information on harmony and rhythm. This is the most common kind of printed music notation used by professional musicians.

The Music Industry is not only limited to 25 music careers and – is not just for singers, rappers, musicians, dancers, song writers, producers, etc. that are super talented. This is simply false. Most people love music to some extent. Those that are paying attention to their future and careers know or at least wish they can be involved with something they love.

Many will admit they believe they don’t have what it takes to make it in the music industry and some will admit they don’t have a desire to be a musical artist. But many will also admit they need a job, and for longevity’s sake will admit they need a career they love. They love music and need career involvement in something they love.

Well… it just so happens that the music industry employs millions all around the world in positions that are not directly artist related or even behind the scenes artist related. The fact is there are over 120 different careers with lucrative futures in the music industry. Now multiply that by the thousands of record labels, advertising agencies, law firms, and so on all over the globe. These careers range from secretaries all the way up to C.E.O.’s of major music corporations. Do you like manual labor, advertising, practicing law, or preparing clothes? If so the music industry has something for you and so much more!

The music industry has involvement in almost every facet of our everyday lives. The music industry alone is responsible for offering some of the most exciting careers known to mankind. These careers are no harder to find than any other types of job as long as you’re willing to look. Yes, of course some jobs require training and hard work and some don’t. But that’s nothing someone seeking a career wouldn’t find even if they were applying for a job at the local telephone company or the like. But! How many people really LOVE their jobs at the telephone company? Do you like camping and do you like live music? If you answered yes to both questions then a visit to the Suwannee Music Park and campground in North Florida will positively delight you.

The park located north of Live Oak, Florida. The camp ground is located on the banks of the Suwannee River and it is home to a variety of musical events throughout the year. You can watch musical performances throughout the week at the park’s music hall and during the festivals you can enjoy the outdoor natural amphitheater.

Live music is just part of the attraction of this park. The camp covers 800 acres which provides ample space for camping, hiking, canoeing, bird watching, jogging, putt putt golf and lots more recreational activities.

The scenery here is beautiful. There is a Spanish moss-draped forest, a cypress tree lined, spring-fed lake, and a wonderful wildlife habitat that is perfect for bird watching. The recreational facilities are well developed and varied.

One unusual attraction is the Bat House. This is the largest known bat house in the United States. Bats enter the house from underneath through three-quarter inch openings. The Bat House is able to hold half a million bats since bats only use one-fourth of an inch of space.

Well if bats are not your thing then you can keep yourself blissfully occupied with swimming, hiking, fishing or canoeing. You can come as a day visitor or spend some time camping.

If you are camping you have several possibilities. The park has 600 improved campsites and 800 acres of primitive camping. There are beautiful cabins available for rent and there is RV parking with full hookups, and there are shower and bath houses as well. There are tent and camping areas and also areas for horse camping. With tent camping you can get water and electric facilities or you can spend less and opt for primitive camping.

If you are planning to do horse camping you will have to bring your own horse (no stallions) and be able to enjoy 20 miles of in-park trails and have access to 50 miles of other trails as well.

Other services at the park include a full service restaurant, a country store and an arts and crafts village.

In case you are wondering about the music experience here, the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park was named “the Best Live Music Venue” in Florida in 2009 by Florida Monthly Magazine. There are numerous concerts and festivals throughout the year and there is live entertainment four nights a week during the year.

But this not only a place to watch music, it is a place to play your own music. There are many covered pavilions and gathering places where campers can gather together for a time of fun, fellowship, and of course, pickin’ and grinnin’. The Suwannee River Bluegrass Association invites you to join them every Saturday night in the Pickin’ Shed at 6 pm.
